About Beaver County
Beaver County is steeped in tradition but poised for the future.
Located in southwestern Pennsylvania, Beaver County has a population of 166,140 residents. It is comprised of 54 municipalities including two third-class cities.
There are 14 public school districts, along with several charter schools, including Baden Academy and the Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School, a public charter school that offers world-class training for Pennsylvania students in music, theater, dance, writing and publishing, media arts, health sciences and pre-law.
Higher education is also an integral part of Beaver County. With Community College of Beaver County, Geneva College and Penn State Beaver all located within the county and Robert Morris University just over the border in Allegheny County, there are many opportunities for traditional students and adult learners to further their education.
Though the steel industry of yesteryear left its impression, the county is moving forward into the 21st Century with new industry and initiatives.
The Shell Chemicals cracker plant in Potter Township has spurred new economic growth in the county, and once the construction is complete it is anticipated there will be ancillary business and employment opportunities.
The county also is embracing environmentally friendly initiatives. For example, the Borough of Monaca has been recognized as a municipal leader for its sustainability efforts and was the winner of the 2019 Sustainable Pittsburgh Challenge. RiverWise, a non-profit project through the Beaver County Partnership, focuses on working with the county’s river towns to create sustainable development practices and utilize the area’s natural resources.
Beaver County boasts the beautiful Beaver and Ohio rivers that allow for recreation and commerce. Four public parks give those with a love of the outdoors a chance to take in nature.
If you’re a foodie, you’ll find plenty to love in Beaver County. There are numerous locally owned and operated restaurants. You can find everything from old-fashioned drive-in food to fine dining, from ice cream and custard to gourmet pastries, and farm-to-table fare to sushi.
Love the city? Beaver County is just a short drive to downtown Pittsburgh where you’ll find numerous sporting, arts and cultural events.
